Adopt A Cow
In the quiet streets of Dehradun, thousands of innocent cows face a harsh reality when they are deemed useless by their owners. Once these mother cows grow old and stop producing milk, they find themselves abandoned, left to navigate the streets alone. Some are aged, injured, or simply cast aside, while others fall victim to butchers. Starving and weathering the elements, they wander in search of food, enduring insults, stones, and even fatal accidents.
This heart-wrenching situation prompted the creation of Doon Animal Welfare – A sanctuary for these destitute cows. The number of abandoned cows continues to rise, and this gaushala provides a ray of hope for their well-being.
According to the Shastras, each family should take in and protect at least one cow. Unfortunately, the demands of modern life often leave little space and time for the routine care of our desi cows. This is where the opportunity to ‘Adopt a Cow’ comes into play.
For a small monthly sum of around 3000 rupees, you can adopt a cow already residing in the gaushala. Your contribution goes directly towards the care and well-being of that cow for the entire month. By participating in this noble cause, you not only accumulate Punya (good deeds) by serving Gaumata but also free yourself from the complexities of micromanagement. It’s a simple and effective way to contribute to the welfare of these gentle beings and fulfill your wishes simultaneously.
‘Doon Animal Welfare’ stands as one of the largest Gaurakshashala in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The mission is clear: to protect, feed, and shelter ailing, starving, destitute, and stray desi cows, many of which are abandoned by their owners or rescued from the clutches of butchers. It’s important to note that this sanctuary does not sell milk or milk products. From its humble beginnings with just seven cows, the gaushala has grown to provide a haven for over 4000+ cows in Uttarakhand.
As we navigate the challenges of our fast-paced lives, let us not forget the silent suffering of these gentle creatures. Embracing the ‘Adopt a Cow’ initiative not only makes a difference in the lives of these cows but also allows us to contribute to a compassionate and humane society.
Together, we can create a world where every cow is cared for and cherished, living a life free from neglect and suffering.
