Today, her life is a daily battle for survival on the unforgiving streets. The horns of traffic are a constant threat. Her gentle nature is met with shouts and stones. Her stomach aches with a gnawing hunger that never leaves as she searches through piles of plastic for a morsel of food. In the evening, as she watches families enter their brightly lit homes for Navratri preparations, she remains outside—a forgotten mother in the cold.

Last week, our rescue team found Gauri.

She was huddled in a corner during the rain, shivering, her leg wounded and her spirit nearly broken. When our volunteer reached out, she flinched, expecting a blow. But instead, she received a gentle touch. A kind word. For the first time in a long time, she was seen not as a burden, but as a life deserving of dignity.

Today, Gauri is safe with us. But her journey to healing is long, and she is just one.

Her story is the story of hundreds of other mothers who still wander our streets—their silent prayers for food, for safety, for a moment of peace echoing unheard.
